Survey: women’s money confidence will continue to surge in this decade
According to a recent survey by Ellevest, the imminent transfer of wealth to women will not only make them more affluent, but women will become more confident about money.
This goes against outdated money myths and stereotypes which claim women lack money confidence and ‘find investing too risky’.
Crucially, women will continue to reshape our society in ways which reflect their values and goals.
What is the Great Wealth Transfer?
Baby boomers have built historically unmatched wealth. The good news is that women will be the primary beneficiaries as they outlive their partner, followed by Millennials and Gen Z.
By 2030, it is estimated that women will manage $30 trillion of private wealth, which is more than the GDP in America.
In the UK, women will own the majority of private wealth by 2025, which is now less than one year away.
And according to the Ellevest survey, women will experience a significant boost in their financial confidence.
Here is a summary of the key findings:
Receiving a financial windfall increases women’s confidence 1.8 times — from 45% reporting that they’re confident with money, to 81%.
And it means that they become more confident about their ability to manage their money than even men are (at 77%).
77% of women giving or receiving a financial windfall say they're comfortable talking about money with their families.
About 1/4 of women who have received or expect to receive a financial windfall say they're likely or very likely to leave their partner when or if they receive a financial windfall. That’s ~2x more than women who don’t expect to get a financial windfall.
What is interesting to note is that ‘more Gen Z and Millennial women stated that receiving a financial windfall would make them (or made them) feel “powerful” versus women from older generations’.
